Chinlink Participated in the Voluntary Activity “Cookery for ALL!” Creating an Inclusive Community for Students with Moderate Intellectual Disability

[17 February 2017 - Hong Kong] Chinlink International Holdings Limited (“Chinlink”, HKSE Stock Code: 0997) its subsidiaries (collectively the “Group”) participated in the voluntary activity “Cookery f ALL!” (“the “Event”) on 17 February 2017. Through the hs-on cooking activities with students with moderate intellectual disability, Chinlink hoped to not only develop self-confidence sense of achievement in the participants, but also to promote the awareness, understing acceptance of people with different backgrounds abilities. After the successful collabation with TREATS in early 2016, the Group once again sponsed the event ganised by TREATS this year. TREATS is a pioneer charity in Hong Kong that focuses on children social integration provides essential integration opptunities f all children in Hong Kong. It aims to integrate children teenagers of all abilities backgrounds through the use of experimental learning, play recreation activities, in der to foster their personal development enhance their self-esteem life skills. In the mning on the Event day, Chinlink Cpate Volunteer Service Team volunteers from TREATS attended a briefing session provided by TREATS, in der to be well-equipped f communicating with students with moderate intellectual disability. After the session, they were welcomed by students with moderate intellectual disability of HKSYC&IA Chan Nam Chong Memial School. All of the participants were divided into small buddy groups started to play ice-breaking games to know each other. Afterwards, the cookery session marked the climax of the day. The group leaders firstly introduced the ingredients needed demonstrated the steps of making cookies. Then the buddies blended all the ingredients well cut the cookies in different shapes. Meanwhile, the groups decated cookies designed the cookie boxes in creative ways. They washed the utensils tidied up together once finished the production, fostering the sense of responsibilities of the students. Students could not wait to share the freshly baked cookies with the volunteers. Everyone enjoyed the joyful atmosphere the Event ended with cheers. During the sharing session, a cpate volunteer claimed that they had encountered some communication barriers with the students with moderate intellectual disability at the beginning. After showing their love patience, the students started to blend in the Event enjoy cooking with big brothers sisters. Although the cooking process was simple, it had given the students a great chance to benefit from growing in self-knowledge improving self-confidence through each tiny cooking step. Volunteers were also surprised by how attentive enthusiasm the children shown during the cookery session had a wonderful lesson in building an equal accepting relationship. Mr. Siu Wai Yip, utive Direct of Chinlink, said, “This was our second consecutive year in collabating with TREATS. The event was a valuable opptunity f our volunteers to get in touch with students with moderate intellectual disability, to have a better mutual understing respect f diversification. This experience could also improve self-confidence, spark creativity actualise potentials in these students, hoping to make the impossible possible. As ‘it is me blessed to give than to receive’, the Group encourages colleagues to participate in voluntary services, in der to give care suppt the disadvantage communities, treat people with different abilities equally put aside our stereotypes prejudice, so as to create an inclusive community with mutual understing acceptance.”
